Lasting Statement

With the design help of Timoni WestAndy Smith has created a poignant website called Lasting Statement that presents the final statements and some images of theh “men and women who have been executed by the state of Texas since 1982.” He explains on his blog that he ran into the statements on the Texas Department of Criminal Justice website, found them deeply moving and wanted to present them in a more personable format.

“These people were human beings much like you or I, some quite young, and they experienced love and fear in their lives. Some were repentant, some were acceptant, some may have been innocent. All of them looked their own death straight in the eye.”

“Yes sir, Warden Okay I’ve been hanging around this popsicle stand way too long. Before I leave, I want to tell you all. When I die, bury me deep, lay two speakers at my feet, put some headphones on my head and rock and roll me when I’m dead. I’ll see you in Heaven someday. That’s all Warden.”
